Somewhere along the way, building code training became four days of lectures. A talking head, a projector, dry material, maybe some war stories to pass the time. You sit through it, you take the exam, and if you pass, you’re certified — but half the time you still can’t find the answer when you’re standing in an attic with a flashlight in your teeth.
We’re breaking that mold. That’s the whole reason Live Oak Academy exists.
Over the past nine months, we’ve been building a new way of thinking about code training. Study companions that teach you how the code book is organized, not just what it says. Flashcard apps that fit prep into the pockets of your day. An exam simulator that puts you under real testing pressure before exam day ever arrives. And live classes built the way classes should have been built all along — small groups, real code problems, and an instructor who works alongside you instead of at you.
The goal was never just to get you through an exam. It’s to help you pass it, yes. But it’s also to make you faster at finding relevant code when you’re out in the field doing the job. And it’s to build the kind of confidence that carries through a career — the kind that comes from actually knowing your way around the book, not from memorizing someone’s war stories.
War stories have their place in this world. That place is not our classroom.
Our first job is education. Our second job is enforcing the code. We built the Academy for the first job, and we’d be honored to have you in it.

Our B1 Residential Building Inspector course starts October 5 — four weeks, Monday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 PM ET, live and small by design. Enrollment closes September 28, one week before class begins.
